Two representatives of PDN won prizes at the recent Summer Scientific Meeting of BACA (British Association of Clinical Anatomists) at Aston University, Birmingham, for their oral presentations.
Dave Duru (Gonville & Caius, Part II student from the academic year that has just ended) won the Conrad Lewin Prize for best oral presentation for the talk, "A novel patient-specific approach to landmark-based intramuscular botulinum toxin (Botox®) injections into the rotator cuff", based on one component of his project. This was supervised by Mr Niel Kang, Miss Salma Chaudhury, and PDN Teaching Professor of Human Anatomy, Professor Cecilia Brassett.
Lauren Hector (former junior anatomy demonstrator, now a Specialty Registrar in Radiology at Addenbrooke's Hospital) won the President's Prize for best oral presentation for the talk, "The anatomical course of the azygos vein: a retrospective computed tomography study". This was based on a collaborative project with Dr Tim Sadler, Consultant Radiologist who was also a former anatomy demonstrator, other registrars and Professor Cecilia Brassett.
The BACA has, through its two scientific meetings each year, and its journal, Clinical Anatomy, set out to achieve excellence in Clinical Anatomy for all Health Professionals and those engaged in Teaching or Research. The bi-annual meetings are great opportunities to network with academics and clinicians interested in anatomy from all over the world.
